Dermal Fillers & Lip Sculpting
Treatment Guide
Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers are made from Hyaluronic acid, and delivered via injections to ‘fill’ out lines and creases in the skin, hydrating and plumping our skin.
Botox®, and other antiwrinkle injections, and fillers are two types of injectables, which are both injected with a needle. The biggest difference between Botox® and fillers is that Botox® is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles, fillers on the other hand will fill in wrinkles.
From as early as 20-30 years old, our faces gradually begin to lose volume, an entirely natural process. This can cause a ‘hollowness’ and lead to gravity pulling the skin of the face forward and downward. This can inevitably result in folds within the skin as well as the formation of jowls – the classic signs of ageing. Dermal fillers are a popular rejuvenation treatment used to fill in hollows, folds and wrinkles.
At Cotswold Surgical Partners, our practitioners can provide Dermal Fillers treatments to your:
- Lips
- Nasolabial folds (smile/laughter lines)
- Marionette lines
- Perioral rejuvenation
- Smokers lines
- Cheeks
We can also provide a dermal filler dissolving service using Hyaluronidase.
Quick Facts

Treatment can be used to sculpt and shape lips, volumise cheeks, correct down turned mouth corners and sculpt the chin and jawline

Dermal Fillers Q&A
The safest dermal fillers are clear gels made from Hyaluronic acid that last for a limited period of time. Hyaluronic acid is a compound that occurs naturally in your body and is responsible for attracting and retaining moisture. Your body produces its own Hyaluronic acid but as we age, the production diminishes. Different fillers are used in different areas and vary in thickness, viscosity and longevity.
Depending on the area that is being treated will depend on which dermal filler is used and where within the skin it is placed. The filler may be injected deep, onto bone to provide more volume and structure to the face. Alternatively, the filler may be injected more superficially to plump a specific line or wrinkle. Dermal fillers will provide immediate volume and correction.
Dermal fillers are suitable for anyone that is looking to rejuvenate, volumise or correct specific areas of the face. Both males and females are suitable for treatment and at Cotswold Surgical Partners, a natural approach is always taken.
Dermal fillers are a popular rejuvenation treatment that can be used in a variety of different areas.
Areas that can be treated are as follows:
- Lip Fillers
- Nose to Mouth Lines
- Marionette Lines
- Perioral rejuvenation
- Smokers lines
During the consultation, you will be advised about which filler would be most suitable for you and your area of concern. A local anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to treatment which can reduce discomfort during treatment. The dermal fillers of choice at Cotswold Surgical Partners have a local anaesthetic called Lignocaine integrated within the product which can make the whole process more comfortable.
Treatment times will vary depending on the area(s) that is treated and the product that is used but is generally between 30 – 60 minutes. In some cases, it can take more than one session to ensure the best possible result and allow for any ‘tweaks’.
How long the filler will last will vary depending on the product that is used and the area that is treated. Longevity can range from 6 – 18 months and will also vary from person to person.
During your consultation, Natasha will be able to give you more of an idea about how long the filler should last.
We do not offer this treatment to those who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding. A consultation will look at what other options are available.
Lip Sculpting / Augmentation
Lip enhancement, also known as lip fillers, lip injections, lip augmentation or lip enlargement, can be performed in various ways to improve the size and shape of the lips. Lip augmentation can have an anti-ageing effect, balance asymmetry and reduce tiny vertical fine lines and lines around the mouth.
- Lip injections is an excellent treatment for anyone suffering from thinning lips.
- Size of the lip is not the only consideration for a lip filler treatment – shape, projection and the prominence of the border are all important factors to consider
- When placed correctly, lip fillers can have a significantly anti-ageing and rejuvenating effect with natural-looking results
- Our best compliment: no one will be able to tell you’ve had anything “done”.
Aftercare
You will be able to carry on with your normal activities following treatment. It is not advised to do any heavy exercise and avoid UV exposure for 24 hours. We also advise trying to refrain from applying make-up following the procedure on the day of treatment. A full list of aftercare will be discussed on the day of treatment.
Safety & Side Effects
It is completely normal to have redness and swelling post procedure (swelling is very common after lip enhancement procedures). Swelling will generally subside after about 48 hours but can often take longer in many cases.
Despite efforts being made to avoid bruising, it can occur. If it does, it can take a week or two to disappear. Make-up can be applied to conceal it if needed, but ideally not on the day of treatment to avoid the risk of infection. Arnica gel/cream can also be worth applying to the area to help reduce the appearance of bruising.
A full list of possible side effects will be discussed with you during your consultation.
It is best to discuss your needs, expectations and suitability for treatment during a face-to-face consultation. We will assess your facial anatomy and make tailored recommendations to achieve the best possible outcome.
